Just a little fun with a goofy pic & photoshop. I got this straw cowboy hat on the way back from Decatur last week. I kinda like it.

I had the worst hotel experience ever on Tuesday night. Patrick and I had to go to N. Alabama to do some research for his paper. Well... I got a room on Orbitz and it was a Ramada Limited. Good chain. Thought there was no problem. We got in really late. We paid in cash (using a credit card to reserve online - we thought).
Well, it was WAY late, we were exhausted and we figured it wasn't so bad. We just wanted to sleep. Well, the closer we looked at the floor and the walls and breathed in the rank air in that place, we realized we wish we weren't there.
I have no idea what this ramada is LIMITED to, but I'd say Limited to what? The number of prostitutes you can get in one night? The number of nasty mystery-stains they can have on the floor? The number of times they can clean out the showers real well? The number of days they can go without vacuming the carpet? The number of times you can leave your room and go to the boozefest bar across the parking lot? The number of times you can call the police because someone is yelling "M*therF*cker!!!" outside your room? The number of hairdryers you can have strapped to the walls (because ours didn't have one and I needed one)?
AND, all this wouldn't be SO bad if - IF... they hadn't charged me TWICE.
I'm pretty pissed now. Ramada has already been called and when I get home, I am going to call the one we stayed at and tell them how aweful their room was. I might even go into the whole "Limited to what" bit.

Last night Patrick and I watched View Askew's "Jersey Girl" and failed to find what everyone thought was so god-aweful about the movie.
Granted, it is a chick-flickish crowd-please movie , but it was so damn sweet! I really think that all the Bennifer madness ruined the movie. J-Ho was barely a factor for me and I think this is my favorite performance by Ben Affleck ever. Except for his role in Good Will Hunting - but in many ways those two are uncomparable.
I will totally admit to you that I cried like a baby during this movie. I even liked their funny little names Ollie & Gertrude! George Carlin (Pop) as Ben's (Ollie) father was even an endearing character. He actually reminded me of my own father and their little Jersey life was so normal.
Anyways, I liked the movie and I don't think it deserved all the bad press it got! It just goes to show you how too much coverage of people in the media can actually hurt your movies rather than help them!

I'm just dying to buy something NEW. Don't you hate it when you want to spend money, but don't have any or are way too thrifty to buy what you want?
I found this GAWGEOUS black evening dress for about $100 and I want to buy it so bad. Now, where the HELL am I going to go in an evening dress?
Lets see...?? Sit on the couch watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 with the cat on my lap? Um. NO.
I guess more than actually HAVING the evening dress, I wish I had the time & money to go do something fun while wearing it. But, I guess we can't have everything, eh?
Life is just a conundrum of never-ending contrary...

This is a re-vamp idea of an old Tshirt I made myself. You know how the word AMBULANCE is backwards so that you can see it in a rearviewmirror? Well, I took a red tank and stenciled "SIREN" on it backwards and spraypainted it white.... This is a more graphic rendition. I can't decide if I like it better backwards or forwards.
Maybe forwards with the flame & backwards with just a regular "I".....

This is a classic, southern bible-thumpin' story for you. Back about 7 years ago before I had moved to Auburn I had some transmission trouble with my 1989 Mazda 626 so I took my car to a local transmission man to have it looked at. When we went to pick it up, we found out that he hadn't worked on the car at all.
My brother had gone with me and we began talking to the owner/mechanic and he said that my transmission was computerized and there was nothing he could do about it. Somehow or another we got into a long, drawn-out conversation about these dag-blasted, new-fangled foreign cars with all their confounded computerized parts! He obviously wasn't a man of technology. SO, basically my brother and I said "thanks anyway" and we tried to leave.
But, no. This guy thought he had a captive audience and he began to talk more. He began to talk about how computers were going to be the end of the world and began quoting bible scriptures that he thought related to the evils of technology.
This, of course turned into a completely one-sided conversation where he went on &on for at least 1/2 an hour about his belief in jesus christ and his devotion and the 2nd coming of the lord! He went on to tell us about how he also owned the military surplus store in town and that he has a school bus buried in his back yard with supplies so that he can survive the evil that god was going to destroy the earth with when technology clouds our earthly brains and we forget the lord.
This guy talked until it started raining outside and he STILL didn't shut up. My brother and I began backing up slowing when the rain came and backing up even more quickly when his eyes got all crazy and it was coming down pretty hard.
This guy was INSANE. Seriously. We never took another vehicle back to him. In honor of this story, I made this sign as www.churchsigngenerator.com

I watched Gigli this weekend on cable. I was always kind of curious because it was the start of the Ben & Jen hype and also the end of their acting careers. I must say that it WAS as bad as they said it was. Gigli (which rhymes with REALLY) wasn't at all what I expected. I thought it was supposed to be a romantic drama, but it was actually more of a non-romantic, non-funny piece of shit.
Ben & Jen play Larry & Ricki - two underlings in an undefined world of crime committed by beautiful people. They kidnap the mentally retarded brother of a legislator or something like that (it really doesn't matter who it was as long as you remember he's IMPORTANT). Anyways, Ricki (Lopez) is sent to look after Larry (Afleck) to make sure he doesn't screw up the plan. In the midst of this slow & drawn out plot Afleck gets a little crush on Lopez only to be put in his place when she reveals her lack of enthusiasm toward men. So, one of our many obsticles is to actually believe that Jennifer Lopez would be a be a lesbo. I highly doubt it.
Anyways, after a few too many J-Ho Booty scenes she finally gives in and her and Larry do it. (How did we know this was coming?)... They begin falling in love and no longer want to do harm to the retarded kid and figure out a way to get out of the situation.
This movie was just BAD. Christopher Walken & Al Pacino appearances couldn't even make it better. I was NOT convinced by the guy playing the retarded brother. It was more like a regular guy making FUN of a mentally handicapped person. And to top it all off, they thought it would be funny to see a mentally retarded guy deal with his feelings of sexuality. So, you get really great lines like "She made my penis sneeze -- God bless you penis" Ugh! What the F?
Sadly, this movie wasn't even bad enough to laugh at - which is what I was hoping. It was just long, unrealistic, somewhat sick, and BORING.

I finally saw Run Lola Run tonight after years of my friends suggesting it to me. I liked it! I think I liked the music more than the movie though... especially the music video song on the special features.
I think I read Lori & Krista talking about the soundtrack in Lori's comments? If anyone owns the soundtrack and would want to extend their kindness to making a copy of it.... Hmmmm :)
I like the music... It would be absolutley great for working out to.
Anyway, in conclusion... I wish I could run like Lola runs and I wish everyone knew the wonders of Netflix! yay!

This is actually one of my favorite Johnny Depp movies so that is great! He plays the witty, sarcastic Sands in Once Upon A Time in Mexico. He's really funny in this movie.

Been busier than a one-legged man in a butt kickin' contest!
I have barely even had the time to look for Patrick's Vday present, but I finally have it! I knew what I was going to get him.
The gym hasn't been so bad. I'm really, really tired though. I hold up much better than I thought I would. Of course, you have the health girls who run for like an entire hour straight on the treadmill.
I got on one of those cross-trainers last night. That lasted all of 5 minutes! Good lord! It doesn't look that hard. Looks kinda fun, really. Then the muscles in your leg start to petrify and cramp up. I had to stop before I fell off the thing.

Today I start the gym for the first time in a long time.
Yesterday we went on a tour of the facilities. It is the most expensive gym in town and it has gadgets and tvs attached to every single thing. I must admit, it was very intimidating being there with so many whirring & whirling pieces of equipment. I'm a little nervous about going. But, I picked a Friday night to start because only dorks go to the gym on Friday night. (ah...that's it! I'm a DORK, not a NERD!)
Anyway, the first thing I noticed about the gym when I walked in was the smell. It isn't gross, it isn't pleasant, but it is just the smell of a gym. It's unmistakable.
The 2nd thing I noticed is that it is mostly the regular-looking people who work out there - which I like. They are rich, regular looking people. I'm poor and regular looking, but oh well. Maybe one of the treadmill grandmas will adopt me as their surrogate grand-daughter or something. LOL Yeah, right.
The third thing I noticed was more like something I remembered from the last time I went to the gym--lockerooms are wierd and uncomfortable.
Maybe it'll be fun. They have a pool. Classes like yoga, spinning, and kickboxing...
I'm nervous, but I'm going to try to get into it!
Have a spectacular weekend, folks!

So, I figured that while I wait for photoshop to convert, and save things in the slow, methodical way that it does I should have plenty of time to write some little tidbit for this blog.
I think that I shall empty out my brain and just list the things that I have had on my mind lately. All hail to the mighty list! The easiest and most effcient (and laziest) way to get one's point across.
- I'm very tired of the orange (pantone 158) and blue (pantone 289) that I almost always have to incorporate into every single thing I design here at work.
- I hate, cold rainy weather that makes my nose start to run.
- I hate meetings.
- I can't wait until I retire and I don't have to work anymore.
- This morning I could have slept for another 3 hours or so. I woke up 3 minutes before the alarm went off and I realized by my stiff neck and familiar sleeping position that I hadn't moved all night.
- Today Patrick and I are going to sign up at the health club and I am excited because it is hard to get motivated to excercise in the winter because it is cold and in the summer because of the killer heat. But, indoors it is always perfect!
- I went to the dentist the day before yesterday and got my teeth cleaned along with a full set of xrays. The best thing is that it was free because of my insurance. I haven't been to the dentist in a very, very long time and he said that I have taken amazing care of them. BUT, because of some other old dentists crappy job, I really, really need about $2,000 worth of work. But, after that I should have perfect teeth. All in all, I have always hated the dentist.
- I have a lot of work to do and I really don't feel like doing it!
- I wonder what Patrick has for me for Valentines day??
- I wonder what I should get for him? I think I should get it soon though! I am running out of time!
- I love American Idol. I admit it. It is my secret television indulgence. I can't explain why I like it so much, but it is fun to laugh at.
- My cat pissed me off this morning because he wouldn't stop being bad! He meowed loudly all morning and I got up late so I didn't have time to play with him. THEN, when I was getting dressed for work, he got into my closet and jumped up into the middle of the hanging clothes. Just hanging there by all his many claws to my sweaters, jackets, pants and shirts! He's got too many claws.
- I wish I could go home at lunch and not come back!
- I think I will go get myself a diet dr. pepper. I love the fact that we are supplied with free drinks! Such a simple little perk, but nice!
- In June I get to go to a Graphic Design conference in Chicago! HOW magazine's design conference. I'm excited because I've never been to Chicago before. Actually, I've never been to a big city before (except Atlanta, but that hardly counts).
- I have a lot of emailing to do.... People write... I get busy... I don't get the chance to write back... but, I want to!
- I am mad because my scanner at home doesn't work anymore since I upgraded to OSX and EPSON never made a driver for that model for OSX! So, that means I am pissed because I'll have to buy a new scanner.
- My thoughts on social security?
It scares me to think that I am putting in so much of my money to something I may not ever see. And it scares me how much it will be needed. I've not studied up on the matter, but what GWB says makes sense. The baby boomer generation will suck Soc. Sec. dry. I am all for reforming old systems, but I'm not totally sure that GWB is going to have the best plan. However, I am somewhat resentful of the fact that the democrats are ignoring the issue totally because they are too busy being critical of Bush.
- I can't wait until lunch!
